The Latest Reports on Attention Deficit DisorderThe latest reports on Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD and anxiety or stress. Sometimes children are misdiagnosed with having ADD. This may lead to the prescribing of Adderall, Ritalin or Provigil. The long term side effects of these drugs are not completely known. However there is some evidence to suggest that these drugs may lead to addiction or dependency. It is critical to make certain that before any of these types of drugs are administered that the patient get at least three separate evaluations from different doctors that specialize in these areas. Many children, who are otherwise completely healthy, can exhibit extremely active behavior, even hyper activity as compared to their peers. Children who have other emotional problems and/or problems in the home or at school may be displaying anxiety symptoms rather than ADD. An evaluation by a physician specifically trained in children behavioral problems is suggested. Some regular pediatricians do not have this specialized training and are too quick to prescribe very strong medications. An unhealthy diet can lead to many issues as well as mental health disorders. The following is an excerpt taken from Dr. Daniel G. Amin book Your Brain Change Your Body intervention may be helpful for ADD. A study from Holland reported that children who were put on an elimination diet and ate only lean protein, fruits, vegetables, rice and pear juice had the same positive response rate they had when given Ritalin, a common medication for ADD. on these observations, children who have been suspected of having Attention Deficit Disorder should be given an opportunity to try a dietary intervention before placing them on powerful drugs that may lead to addictions. The unhealthy food choices you are allowing your child to consume may be the culprit and they may not have any serious disorder that a proper diet could not correct. Nowadays children are allowed to eat too many greasy fried foods that are loaded with saturated fat, sodium, salt and other unhealthy foods. Too many hamburgers, french fries, sodas, pizza and a lot of sugar in the diet is very unhealthy. Overweight and obesity in children has been described as a national epidemic by various clinicians. Both children and adults need to eat more vegetables and whole fruits. More beans, nuts, fish and lean meats, not fried, are highly recommended for every one. More chicken and turkey devoid of skin and not fried is good for any diet. Most processed foods and canned foods are loaded with sodium and salt as preservatives. Wieners, sausage and hamburger meat contain high levels of both saturated fat and sodium and salt. If you have become concerned about the possibility of a child having ADD, make every attempt to change their diet to include healthier choices before making the risky leap to powerful drugs. Your child welfare might very well depend on you taking responsibility for what they eat. http://www.self-improvement-health.com/ADD.html |
